WILLOW LAKE JULY 4TH CELEBRATION

June 25, 2019

Continuing its annual tradition of Fourth of July festivities, the community of Willow Lake has put together a day-long lineup of old-fashioned, family-friendly fun.

Thursday, July 4 will begin with the Firecracker Fun Run / Walk 5K and Kids Mile Run. To participate, be at Veterans Memorial Park at 7:30am for the 8:00am race. If you pre-register by contacting Angela Terhark at (605) 881-2068, you’ll have a commemorative t-shirt in your size waiting at the event. Visit the event page on Facebook here for full details.

At 11:00am, it’s all fun and games for kids – including a first-ever Turtle Race – at Veterans Memorial Park. Kids must bring their own turtle to vie for prizes for largest, smallest, and fastest in a variety of heats. Please register a half-hour before the 11:30am first race. Visit the Willow Lake July 4th event page on Facebook here for full details, including a post of the adorable Turtle Race "rules."

A bean tag tournament will be held at Veterans Memorial Park beginning at 1:00pm. Bring your two-some and toss some bags! Kids and adults are welcome. If swimming is more your style, the swimming pool will also be open from 1:00pm to 8:00pm.

Nothing is more all-American than homemade pie, and you’ll get a chance to taste some of the best down at the Willow Lake Museum on main street from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. The “Happy Bookers” book club is serving pie and coffee, with freewill donations going to the repair of the museum building roof. If you’d be willing to provide a homemade pie for the event, please contact Cheryl Brekke at 625-3057.

At 4:00pm, the traditional Fourth of July parade will come down main. Lineup begins a half-hour prior at the football field. Parade entries are welcomed and encouraged! No pre-registration is necessary.

If all this activity has worked up an appetite, come down to Veterans Memorial Park from 5:00pm to 7:00pm for a supper sponsored by Thrivent and hosted by the 7th and 8th graders raising funds for their trip to Washington, D.C. and New York City next year. Live music will be provided during supper by Willow Lake’s own Leland Harding III & Family Tradition band.

Stick around or come back to town later for a truly great fireworks display by the Willow Lake volunteer firemen. Park at or near the football field for the show, beginning at dusk.
